The Mukilteo City Hall is a LEED® Gold certified facility. The energy efficient features and environmental aspects of the building are numerous and therefore the solar installation will provide a meaningful contribution to the electricity load. The building is open to the public and is regularly visited by the public, contractors, consultants and other government personnel. The building has a south facing standing seam roof with near 100% solar access.
In September 2009, the city installed a 2.72-kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof. Thanks to the generous support of Snohomish County PUD, energy monitoring provided to Mukilteo has connected the real-time performance data from their PV system to the Energy Exploration Center at Solar4RSchools.org. Students and educators nationwide can chart, graph and analyze the system's performance data for educational purposes.
