About the School:

Thanks to the generous support of Idaho Power's voluntary Green Power Program, Notus Jr. Sr. High School joined the Solar 4R Schools program in 2013.

As a Renewable School, Notus Jr. Sr. High School is building a dedicated community of renewable energy educators, generating clean energy through their 4.77-kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) system and leveraging the system's performance data as an educational tool to bring energy topics to life in their classrooms. The system was installed onto the roof of the Technical Education Building and consists of eighteen 265-Watt Solarworld mono-crystaline modules and one SMA Sunnyboy 4000-TL-US inverter to condition the PV power for the grid. There is also a local weather station connected to this installation to provide data on cloud cover and temperature. Historical data on this installation is also available.

In 2013, educators within the school received a customized renewable energy teacher training, hands-on science kit materials to augment the school's existing curricula, and complete access to the resources available on the Solar4RSchools.org website. To optimize integration of renewable energy science and technology content, every aspect of the support provided by Solar 4R Schools was customized to fit the unique focus of the school community, including topics covered in the teacher training as well as our recommendations for activities and science kit materials to make integration of this new content as efficient as possible.

At the time of the project, energy monitoring provided to the school connected the live performance data from their PV system to students and educators to analyze the system's performance data for educational purposes.
