About the School:

Champlain Valley Union High Schools is the first in Vermont to receive a Solar 4R Schools™ project, and was funded by 100-year-old snow sport manufacturer Rossignol and Protect our Winters, a nonprofit that actively engages the global snow sports community to lead the fight against climate change.

As a Renewable School, Champlain Valley Union High School is building a dedicated community of renewable energy educators, generating clean energy through their awarded 1-kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) system and leveraging the system's performance data as an educational tool to bring energy topics to life in their classrooms.

The system's five solar panels have been installed onto the school's roof and provide enough electricity to power a single classroom. Energy monitoring services and hardware provided to Champlain Valley has connected the real-time performance data from their PV system to the Energy Exploration Center at Solar4RSchools.org. Students and educators nationwide can now chart, graph and analyze the system's performance data for educational purposes.

In 2012, Champlain Valley educators also received a customized renewable energy teacher training, hands-on science kit materials to augment the school's existing curricula, and complete access to the resources available on the Solar4RSchools.org website.
