As a Renewable School, Woodward School for Technology and Research in Kalamazoo, Michigan is building a dedicated community of renewable energy educators, generating clean energy through their 1.1-kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) system, and leveraging the system as an educational tool to bring energy topics to life in their classrooms. The project is the first initiated in the state of Michigan.
This project marks the fourth of eight projects sponsored by the Vote For Change Renewable Energy Project led by artists including Stone Gossard, Pearl Jam, REM, Bonnie Raitt, and the Dave Matthews Band. The projects are part of the artists' national effort to raise awareness of the environmental impact of our energy choices.
In 2006, educators within the school received a customized renewable energy teacher training, hands-on science kit materials to augment the school's existing curricula and complete access to the resources available on the Solar4RSchools.org website.
