About the School:

Thanks to the generous support of Portland General Electric and the Energy Trust of Oregon, Lincoln High School joined the Solar 4R Schools program in 2005. Lincoln High School, in the Portland School District, is the ninth project in BEF’s Solar 4R Schools program, and one of four metro area schools to receive solar electric panels during the first quarter of 2005.

As a Renewable School, Lincoln High is building a dedicated community of renewable energy educators, generating clean energy through their awarded 1-kilowatt photovoltaic system, and leveraging the photovoltaic (PV) system as an educational tool to bring energy topics to life in their classrooms. The Solar 4R Schools award provides a demonstrable means of educating students on the functions and benefits of solar electric power at no financial cost to the school. In addition to producing clean, renewable energy, Nearly 100 percent of Lincoln students will use the solar project during their required science classes.

In 2005, educators within the school received a customized renewable energy teacher training, hands-on science kit materials to augment the school's existing curricula, and complete access to the resources available on the website. Energy monitoring awarded to the school made the live performance data from their PV system available to the community for educational purposes.
