As a Renewable School, Interlake High School in Bellevue, Washington is building a dedicated community of renewable energy educators, generating clean energy through their photovoltaic (PV) system and leveraging the system's performance data as an educational tool to bring energy topics to life in their classrooms. The PV system features a 4.2-kilowatt array of twenty-four 175 watt PV modules. Under full sun conditions, the system could light more than 300 compact fluorescent light bulbs. The system will produce more than 4,280 kilowatt-hours of clean, renewable energy annually. Energy monitoring provided to the school connected the live performance data from their PV system to educational activities at the time of the project.
Educators within Interlake High School received a customized renewable energy teacher training, hands-on science kit materials to augment the school's existing curricula, and complete access to the resources available on the Solar4RSchools.org website.
