In 2009 Portland, OR City Commissioner Randy Leonard flipped the switch on the city's largest operated solar array at that time. With over 1200 solar modules, the array is expected to produce 300,000 kWh of energy every year. The array was installed by EC Company and financed by a joint venture between the Bonneville Environmental Foundation and Sentry Financial. The project will offset the city's energy bills for the next decade and the city will have the option to take over ownership in the future. This project represents the commitment of the Portland city government and the community in renewable energy. Solar energy monitoring provided to the school connected live performance data from their PV system at the time of the project.
