In 2006, Del Peublo Elementary School became the recipient of a 1.1-kilowatt photovoltaic system thanks to the Legacy Adopt-A-School program and support from the American Solar Energy Society. The school immediately recognized the potential to leverage the system as a teaching, research and hands-on demonstration opportunity for students.
In addition to building a dedicated community of renewable energy educators, the Renewable Classroom PLUS project from Solar 4R Schools™ has transformed the school's PV system into a hands-on classroom tool. The school leveraged the real-time performance data from their PV system for educational purposes.
Educators at Del Peublo received a customized renewable energy teacher training, hands-on science kit materials to augment the school's existing curricula, and complete access to the resources available on the Solar4RSchools.org website. To optimize classroom integration over time, every aspect of the support provided by Solar 4R Schools™ was customized to the unique focus of the school community, including topics covered in the teacher training as well as our recommendations for activities and science kit materials to make integration of renewable energy science and technology content as efficient as possible.
