The Carl Gipson Senior Center is operated by the City of Everett, Washington, and offers membership services to adults 50 years of age and older.
The installation of a 3.92-kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) system onto the Center reflects a commitment to renewable energy and sustainable living by the City of Everett and the Snohomish County PUD. The system's solar panels are visible to downtown Everett traffic, helping highlight the Center's commitment to serve the needs of seniors by offering a method to conserve energy.
Energy monitoring services provided by Solar 4R Schools™ to the Center has transformed the system into an interactive classroom tool. Through the Energy Exploration Center at Solar4RSchools.org, students and educators nationwide can now chart, graph and analyze the system's performance data to understand the influences of system size, type, and weather on energy production.
A touchscreen kiosk located in a high traffic area of the Center gives visitors the chance to interact with the system's performance data while learning key facts about the science and benefits of renewable energy. Visiting seniors can share energy performance reports from the kiosk with their children and grandchildren and help the older members stay connected with today's technology.
