Clean Energy Denton Educator Workshop

Grade Level:
3-6
Location:
Denton, TX
About the School:
On August 2, 2019 11 educators from Denton ISD came together to explore renewable energy concepts through inquiry and hands on investigation. The workshop was hosted by the City of Denton’s Sustainability Office at the Central Library.
The day began with CE providing educators with a context of the advanced energy economy and career opportunities available to their students. Educators then engaged in a mini science inquiry unit exploring solar circuitry phenomena through best practice inquiry techniques, including modeling, and hands-on investigation. The City of Denton then provided a presentation on local issues in energy, exploring Denton’s energy mix and plans and local resources available through the city. Finally, educators spent the afternoon on an engineering design process to create solar boas, exploring properties of materials in line with TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) standards.
Teachers explored available resources through CE, the City, and regional/statewide opportunities such as the TAME (Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering) Program.
