West Salem High School was just the second school to join the Solar 4R Schools program, installing a 2.8-kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) system in 2002. In April 2008, West Salem continued its renewable-energy trailblazing. With generous funding support from Salem Electric, the school built a wind turbine on its campus rated at 1.8-kilowatts with a peak output of 2.4-kilowatts.
