Pittsburgh Renewable Energy Inquiry and Engineering workshop is a FREE two-day professional development training made possible by Arconic Foundation and CE. This inquiry-based, hands-on science and engineering training program offers a review of the science, technology, and classroom applications of clean energy applicable for all grade bands. Over the course of two days, teachers will be exposed to renewable energy through both the lens of hands-on activities as well as teacher-generated and classroom-tested curriculum.

On Day 1, teachers will focus on both gaining insight into the usage of specific hands-on tools they will have access to in the classroom as well as exploring specific content topics and how they relate to PA Standards and the NGSS. There will additionally be a presentation by a representative from Duquesne Light on regional renewable resources. Topics on this day will include energy fundamentals, circuitry construction and data collection, grid dynamics, and wind energy. On Day 2, teachers will focus on specific curricular tools and planning strategies they can employ to implement renewable energy concepts in their classroom. The opportunity will be provided to explore specific 6th-8th-grade or K-5th-grade curriculum. Teachers will leave with access to a library of hands-on tools through AIU3 as well as receive substitute reimbursement and ACT 48 hours.
