About the School:

Educators and administrators within Lone Rock School realized that the economics of their country, state and community would be changing dramatically during the time that their elementary school children were receiving their formal education. They felt that the one category of business that would withstand the coming changes and still be in place for future jobs would be in the field of energy. Whether it be oil, coal, wind, solar, biomass or hydrogen that fueled future systems, their students would benefit from getting a solid education in a broadfield approach to learning about energy.

In 2008, Lone Rock School made a commitment to the students of their district that energy education would be a part of their school life. As a Renewable School, Lone Rock School is building a dedicated community of renewable energy educators, generating clean energy through their awarded 4-kilowatt photovoltaic system, and leveraging the system's performance data as an educational tool to bring energy topics to life in their classrooms. The PV system is part of the renewable energy curriculum and a primary interest of the Lone Rock School's Energy Club where our Energy Club logo is a sketch of Albert Einstein pointing to our motto, Energy: rated "E" for Everyone.

Energy monitoring provided to the school has connected the live performance data from their PV system to the Energy Exploration Center at Solar4RSchools.org. Students and educators nationwide can chart, graph and analyze the system's performance data for educational purposes.

In 2011, educators within the school received a customized renewable energy teacher training, hands-on science kit materials to augment the school's existing curricula, and complete access to the resources available on the Solar4RSchools.org website. To optimize integration of renewable energy science and technology content, every aspect of the support provided by Solar 4R Schools was customized to fit the unique focus of the school community, including topics covered in the teacher training as well as our recommendations for activities and science kit materials to make integration of this new content as efficient as possible.
